From a life-altering journey of survival to inspiring the next generation of surfers in the Ventura lineup—The incredible story of determination and a girl smiling through it all.
Smiling through it all
On July 7, 2025, at 24 years old, Elieah Boyd’s life changed in an instant. Amidst a warm mid-summer day while on a bike ride, she was hit by a train, resulting in her arm being severed. When doctors presented her with the choice to attempt reattachment—warning her of a long, uncertain road ahead for function and mobility—Elieah’s immediate resilience took over. Driven by an unwavering will to heal, she chose to try. Through the expert care of her medical team and the steady support of her family, friends; she defied expectations, stepping back onto a surfboard just four months later.
Today, Elieah isn't just back in the ocean—she is living life with a deeper appreciation and a brighter spark than ever before. Returning to the beach as co-owner and lead coach of EZ SURF, teaching surf lessons has become her greatest outlet for joy and genuine connection. Whether guiding a child onto their first wave or helping an adult overcome ocean fears, sharing the water keeps her youthful and grounded. Smiling through every step of her recovery, Elieah stands as a powerful testament to strength and passion, bringing that same warmth, empathy, and unbreakable spirit to every student who joins her in the lineup.
From Elieah when she was hospitalized in July 2025,"This isn't how my story ends. As soon as I step out of the hospital, I know where I’ll be—back in the ocean, on a board surfing, or teaching as much as I can.”
